Our History

What is Rotaract?

Rotaract (which stands for Rotary in Action) is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they’re sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. The first Rotaract club was the Rotaract Club of North  Charlotte in North Carolina, founded on March 13, 1968. Since then, Rotaract has grown into one of Rotary's most significant and fastest-growing service programs. Today, there are more than 10,904 Rotaract clubs in more than 184 countries. The organization is based on small clubs, which can vary in size from 10 to 30 members.
Every Rotaract Club is part of a district Rotaract organization, run by elected representatives with support from sponsoring Rotarians. The district organization plans regional conferences, develops regional projects, holds club leadership training programs, and sponsors special events to strengthen the bond among clubs. Rotaract Clubs hold formal meetings, which feature speakers, tours of local businesses, cultural activities, discussions, and visits to other clubs. Rotaractors utilize weekends for service project work, social events, and professional and leadership development workshops. The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.

What are our goals?

  • To develop professional and leadership skills.
  • To emphasize respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual.
  • To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve.
  • To recognize, practice and promote ethical standards as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities.
  • To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems and opportunities in the community and worldwide.
  • To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill to all people.

Our President's Word

Mohammad Sabbagh

Dear Rotarians,
Fellow Rotaractors,

Three years ago I attended my first handing over ceremony; it was an honor seeing my mentor and advisor, past President Khaled Karouni closing a year full of successful achievements.

Back then, I felt in the responsibility to maintain Rotaract Club De Beyrouth as one of the leading clubs on the national level, on the district level and believe me on the international level too.

Today, and proudly I’m taking the lead of this club with a big shoes to fill serving after you, Past President Sarah Keaik, you have definitely raised the bar even higher, I don't think anyone can disagree that you have always encouraged every member of the club to give his best and you will always have a leading role in our club.

Rotaract is all about service above self, and it has always been the main drive for our club. It is reflected by our success stories throughout the years and especially last year with winning 4 awards. Reaching this level wouldn’t be possible without our rotary de beyrouth’s continuous support. Our bond with our Rotarians is stronger than ever, and we will ensure that this will last for the years to come.

I can promise you one thing dear members, I will make sure that with your help, support and full dedication our club this year will shine even brighter will be known for more success stories. A lot is awaiting us if we believe in the power of the team as we have always did.

We are de beyrouth because of our solidarity, we are de beyrouth because of our bonding, and we are who we are in the district because of your love to the club and to the Rotaract mission.
I believe in each and every one of you,
I believe in the positivity you have and the concrete bonding you build,

I have always been proud to say I am a member of Club De Beyrouth, today I stand as a proud President, grateful for you believing in me, and I can tell with a  team like you, the best is yet to come!

Finally, we promise you a year full of success, incredible memories and lots of achievements.

Thank you,

Our Club Members
