The International Beirut Marathon
The Rotaract Club of Beirut identified The International Beirut Marathon as a perfect event to promote Rotaract and collect a database for potential recruits especially for its unique ability to gather All Youth in one Location for a good cause. Therefore, Rac Beirut approached all Rotaract Clubs in Lebanon to invest in this event in order to have a greater impact.
Location specification:
The targeted location is The International Beirut Marathon village that 20,000 runners have to visit in order to take their registration number. This is not only a registration center, it is also an exhibition lasting for 4 days during which many NGOs, retail companies, and others sells their products and address the Youth in a message communicated through stands.
Purpose:
- Rac Awareness for All the visitors in the village (runners, relatives of runners and friends, marathon volunteers and exhibitors)
- Collecting a database for potential guests in Rac Clubs for membership growth.
- Implementing certain activities that reflect a positive image about Rotaract.
Participants:
10 clubs joined Rac Beirut in this Rac Mission. Among them: Rac Beirut Metropolitan, Rac Aley, Rac Byblos, Rac Batroun, Rac Zgharta, Rac Sahel El Meten, Rac Keserouan, Rac Baabda, Rac Mina and Rac Maarad.
Process:
- Rotaract Clubs of Lebanon stand available from Wednesday November 29th till Saturday December 2nd from 12:30 till 9pm. All club members took shifts to assist the curiosities of visitors who never heard about Rotaract before.
- White Boards on the stand on which each visitor wrote something positive not religious or political.
- 2000 Brochures distributed about Rotaract and including a list of All Rac Clubs in Lebanon.
- 100 Rotaract Beirut Brochures
- Presentation with a data show prepared by The Rotaract Club of Beirut and VDRR Firas Hamdan and presented by VDRR Firas Hamdan about what is to be a Rotaractor? Duration: 30 min.
- Announcements during the four days of the exhibition.
- "Let's All be One Hand", activity launched by Rotaract Clubs of Lebanon on Thursday November 30, 2006 which calls everyone present in the village to hold the hands of someone else to make a big human chain all along the village in order to stress that we should always be united.
Results:
- Rotaract awareness widely achieved.
- Rotaract summary and OLFA published in the official marathon magazine that reaches tons and tons of people worldwide
- Rotaract Clubs of Lebanon have a database for 100 potential guests
- Rac Beirut had the pleasure to meet several NGOs and collect many contacts that could be highly beneficial for potential future projects.
